“The book reminds the reader of an elusive last mile. it is about the human spirit of survival. The book is best remembered for stories of exceptional Malaysians who have gone through hard graft and determination, to be lifted from poverty to position of power, from innovation to invention. Malaysia is almost there but for the sudden appearance of rampant corruption threatening the “last mile”.
“I enjoy reading “The Push till the Last Mile”. The 16 essays are so simply written, with honesty and memorable lines.
I like the rags to riches stories since they resonated with my first trip to Perlis in 1964 when I was in Form 3. During the December holidays, I hitchhiked to Perlis. I stayed in my classmate’s house amidst the padi fields. His family was so poor that the walls on the house were only partially built. he told me that with the next harvest, hopefully they could finish the rest. He later became the State Secretary.
The interview with TDM was the only one I didn’t fancy. Her questions were very sharp and penetrating. Unfortunately TDM’s responses were his typical “non-answer” answers, forever blaming others for his past mistakes. No remorse whatsoever.
I highly recommend the book”.
